Maryland

  • The Maryland National Guard should be permanently de-federalized. The money should be re-allocated to the Maryland Defense Force, and it should only be deployed on missions that benefit the interests of the state. Our troops should not be deployable at the whim of the president of the United States.

  • Money corrupts politics... obviously... but we must find ways to allow campaigns to be more open about their donors and eventually for money to play much less of a role in campaigns, so that elected officials can spend their time discussing policy and interfacing with constituents rather than having fundraisers with big business, rich donors, and lobbyists.
    • We must implement a more fair election system, such as Instant Runoff Voting... this will allow people with real ideas to make Maryland a better place an actual shot at winning, instead of always settling for the lesser of two evils, which continues our current system of political ineptitude.
  • We must balance the rights of both the rich and the poor to build a more equitable and just society. A society must not rob the rich to give handouts to the poor, but rather make sure everyone contributes in a meaningful way to produce opportunity for people of all classes. I do not seek to eliminate the classes, but to allow all to have opportunity to rise, particularly those who show effort and/or intellect... I want the war between classes to end and for us to work on bringing everyone up together, instead of at the expense of other members of society.
  • War is terror. Therefore, the idea of a ‘War on Terror’ is entirely bogus. We must make up our minds as to whether or not we are really in this fight to win or not.

    • We must end the war in Afghanistan and in Iraq. We must bring US troops back home and end deployments of National Guard units. We are fighting a war that is counter-productive and that must be stopped before we lose more money and lives for a cause that we may never win on the battlefield.
  • Limitless wiretapping is unconstitutional and immoral. We must stop the government’s encroachment on personal privacy.

  • Real ID is a violation of personal privacy. We must not allow phony ‘national security’ arguments to compromise our rights.

  • Immigration needs to be be reformed to be more sensible and to benefit both the various states and the nations of origin. Right now the current system of trade policies and immigration laws/enforcement are creating hardships for Americans, Marylanders, and Foreigners across the globe.

  • We may need to consider removing immigration law from the Federal level and allowing the states to have their part in the decision making process, similar to Canada's joint federal/provincial immigration model.

  • We must also find a way to end the ‘brain drain’ that less prosperous countries are experiencing. We might perhaps require that people who bring skills to our country, periodically return to their home countries for a certain period of time to benefit the people there.

  • Citizenship should be returned to the states, and states’-rights should be strengthened via constitutional amendment. The principles of the Declaration of Independence should be more clearly written into the US Constitution.

  • The Federal Government should be drastically reduced, and the powers not specifically given to it should be returned to the states as the Constitution demands.

  • Either spending must be reduced or taxes must be increased. The Republicans are cheating our children and grandchildren so that today we may have the semblance of prosperity. This is immoral, and must be rectified.

  • Re-alignment with our British heritage is worth looking into, including perhaps some form of participation in the Commonwealth.
  • Note: I will probably be further modifying/updating this sometime in the future...
